Riya Sen Biography
Riya Sen (Riya Dev Varma) was born on 24th January 1981. Her father Bharat Dev Varma belongs to a reputed royal family of Tripura and mother Moon Moon Sen, a famous actress and sex symbol of Bollywood, who ruled the silver screen during 70’s.
She is the granddaughter of Suchitra Sen, a legend in Bengali Cinema. She has a sister Riama Sen, who is also a famous Bollywood actress.
On her paternal side, her grandmother Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister Gayatri Devi is the Maharani of Jaipur
She studies in at Loreto House and Rani Birla College, both in Kolkata, but dropped out of both institutions. She also briefly studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. But as she made her debut role at tender age, she moved to Mumbai from Kolkata to follow the footsteps of her predecessor.
While in Mumbai, she had a relationship with model, actor John Abraham. After breaking up, she then dated Ashmit Patel, and she briefly dated actor Akshaye Khanna.
Modeling Career
She is a popular model and did ad campaigns for brands like Colgate, Limca, Vatika, Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, and Margarita King. She became more popular when she replaced Lisa Ray as the Lakmé Girl, but soon she has been replaced by Yana Gupta.
Besides the ad campaigns, she became more popular by appearing in numerous music videos for songs by popular singers, including Asha Bhonsle, Falguni Pathak, Jagjit Singh and Sonu Nigam. She was one of many Bollywood stars who appeared in Haath Se Haath Mila an anti-HIV/AIDS music video.
Riya has been featured as a cover girl in many magazines and she also appeared in Dabboo Ratnani’s annual calendar during 2004 and 2005, where some photographs featured her partially nude.
Career in Movies
Riya Sen entered the world of entertainment as a young artist in the film Vishkanya, where she played the role of the young Pooja Bedi. At the age of 5, she made a debut role in Bharathiraaja's Tamil film Tajmahal. She was then signed by Bollywood director Kailash Surendranath for his movie Love You Hamesha opposite Akshaye Khanna, but since the release was delayed, she ultimately made her debut in N. Chandra's low-budget comedy Style.
Post style, her movies went bad at box office, but Jhankaar Beats, another comedy in which she co-starred with Shayan Munshi, Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose, Rinkel Khanna and Sanjay Suri brought smile to her face.
She did films in many languages such as Bengali,Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, and English. She along with her sister appeared in Ajai Sinha's The Bachelor. She was again slated to appear in Anjan Dutt's The Bong Connection, with her sister, but was eventually replaced by Peeya Rai Chaudhary.
Her Bengali movie is Money Porey Tomakey and Malayalam movie is Ananthabhadram directed by Santhosh Sivan, and this was director's first Malayalam venture.
